There's VAT I believe on all the ticket turnover (plus there would be additional employer contributions etc.)- so you can immediately wipe out at least 20%+ off that.

The other factor is that bigger games have considerably bigger costs associated- extra stewarding, police etc.

Increased attendance is very useful but you can't simply times average gate receipts by the increased numbers and see it as cash to spend.

On a slight tangent- never sure of wages at this level, but I would guess our average is more than £500 a week

Think VAT at 20% would be payable on virtually all monies the club takes in on a matchday. It is a very significant amount. And as Malmesbury points out there are additional employers NI payments and possibly other private insurances as well.

Last decade or so normally 1100

Unless anything has changed over the last couple of seasons the away capacity is 1440

I'm sure Pompey were given 1100 tickets 29 months ago!

Don't count your chickens people. I think we were talking about this when we were going to get through to the first round of the FA Cup this year, before unceremoniously being dumped out of that and the trophy.

I cant recall what the ticketing arrangements were for the Pompey game, perhaps the police requested a reduced figure for that game (though I don't remember that being the case) but I have just checked up on old figures from my time at the club and and the certificated away capacity was definitely 1440 as of the 2014/2015 season.

Wasn't the capacity reduced to 7,100? If I remember rightly Man Utd were allocated 1,100 the same as Pompey a couple of seasons later. I'm think it had something to do with Safety.

Forest Green would bring about 120, so let's avoid them!

Man Utd game was 1424 away, there was a small reduction in the seating capacity to allow for the possibility of fans standing instead of sitting, I still have the figures for that, the only other change to capacities for that game was the increase in home capacity that was created by reopening part of the EastBank segregation area so we had a total capacity of 7359 for that game.

What I do remember being a bit surprised at was that nearly 200 Man Utd fans who had purchased tickets never turned up on the day, the Man Utd contact I was dealing with at the time said it was probably fans who want to travel to the bigger away games building up their away attendance record with the club by "wasting" a low cost ticket to earn points to help them purchase future tickets.

Since the 52 week contracts were announced we have had 2 home crowds totalling 7000
we would normally expect around 4000. My maths is not great but 3000 extra fans must
have increased revenue by about £30000 and with Braintree still to come this should
cover the extra 2 months wages.
Maybe a tad optimistic - depends to an extent on the final game. Some fag packet calculations:

(a) Squad size = 20 players
(b) Average salary = £25,000
(c) Total wage bill per year = £500,000 (a * b)
(d) Weekly wage bill = approx 11,000 (c/44)
(e) Additional weeks to pay = 8 (52-44)
(f) Total extra payment = approx. 88,000 (d * e)

Even if you dropped the current average wage down to £20K it racks up to over £70K for the extra 8 weeks.

Countering that I'd guess the average gate money per person at around £14 per head - so 3,000 extra would generate £42,000. The club has to pay tax on that though although I don't know what rate.

Beat Ferriby and what would we get for Braintree - 4,000? That would bring the extra headcount up to 5,000 = approx. £70,000 pre-tax.

I think break-even would require making the play-offs which would probably bring close to a 5,000 crowd.
20 players wont get 52 week contracts. Work it out with 13 players
Agreed. Giles, Buckley. Hyam and Benyu will go back to their parent clubs. Can't see Bellamy getting an offer and at least a couple of others will be left to sweat or will reject offers (no thanks to their agents!)
