Friendlies

Postby Kingfield Shot » Wed Apr 19, 2017 10:48 pm

Whether we go up or not, personally I believe that we will, as predicted some months ago. I believe its about time that we had some big clubs for a home pre season friendlies, games that will attract two to three thousand people or more. I know that most big clubs go abroad, but surely there enough big name players to attract people through the turnstiles. Over the past few years we played Wolves, West Ham, Watford and Middlesbrough in Cups and not played them in friendly match. Even playing a Man United youth team would attract a decent attendance as would playing Chelsea. Incidently, why don't we play Chelsea, they always played Kingstonian, when their ressies played there, every season averaging over 4000. Why cant we do this?

Personally do not do friendlies as mostly just means of upbeat training session. Not even Man United youth would heighten my interest.
But even bigger clubs unlikely to bring in the thousands your looking for, may get response for say a testimonial.
IMHO.

Reading, Portsmouth, Millwall, Swindon and Bristol City.

In reality QPR would be another great friendly as they always seem to bring around 700-1000 and a great team as well.

We have played Chelsea in friendlies before! Brighton would be a good friendly, I know we have played them before but now promoted, they bring lots of supporters. We don't want Reading, too much trouble.

Home v
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Bayern Munich
Juventus.

If unavailable, QPR, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton will do.

Portsmouth is a realistic one. They would bring a few after being promoted as would Brighton. Problem is it usually kicks off against these.

Best suggestion yet although SCB 's one sounds nice but more chance of me getting a 5 minute max at the crucible!

I was speaking to the guys down at Alton FC last week after being invited to a game for 'sponsors day'. They would love to have the Shots down in the summer and are keen to re-instate the yearly ritual for the John McGinty trophy.

I know Mark Butler was also open to the idea after organising the Vets v Lengends game at the old Bass ground but this new facility is fantastic for Alton FC and the local community. Fingers crossed it can get organised!
