OT- Father Of The Bride

Postby stevieshot » Sun May 14, 2017 6:57 pm

I need a bit of help.
I'm giving a Father of the Bride speech next Saturday, has anyone any advice.
I don't really do, or enjoy Public Speaking, and I don't tell jokes very well.

Keep it short and sweet try not to embarrass your daughter too much, embarrass your son in law to be without offending your daughter and remember you are not the star of the show. Your butterflies will not be as bad as the couple to be. Oh and congratulations

Lots of decent jokes on the net under wedding speeches that you could weave in.

Stand up in a mirror and have a practice! Take some cards with brief notes.

If you really are very very nervous , read briefly off a script and demand your son in law takes care of your daughter otherwise there will be trouble.....

Just say, "Thank God my daughter is not marrying McNulty."

Father of the bridge should be sentimental, not funny. Leave that to the best man. Tell some stories about your little girl, make everyone swoon and cry, and you're absolutely golden Sir.

Relax, enjoy yourself and have fun.

Choose your jokes very carefully if your not used to telling them and make sure they are short and there is nothing controversial that can offend anyone in the content

Also try and say something nice about your son in laws parents as its really great when both sets of parents get on and a mention will go down well.

Yes, the wedding breakfast would be a lot more expensive, plus he might throw around some elbows at the party !

Apparently Powerpoint slide shows are becoming more popular at Weddings these day. Whether that helps with the nerves is another matter. Glad I had a son 8)

You should have mentioned this a bit earlier Stevieshot. We could have organised an end of season ToD to the event to help you along. At the end of your speech we could have stood and given a rousing chorus of "We're on our way" from the back row!

What do you think? Is it too late?

Try to offend as many people as possible in a short period of time. You will probably never see most of them again!

So stevieshot, how did it all go?
Watching the news yesterday, you Middleton's don't look like we normal run-of-the-mill Shots supporters. (That was your 'do' wasn't it? )
