Sponsored Walk to Maidenhead, exceeds all expectation (SUNDAY UPDATE)

Postby Shots Supporters Trust » Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:03 am

Updated Sunday 8th

After many months of planning, Saturday 7th October 2017 will be a date to remember for SEVEN Shots fans who walked from Aldershot to Maidenhead in order to raise sponsorship funds to Boost The Budget.

Trust Chairman Tommy Anderson and Vice Chair Robin Carder were joined by Steve and Hayley Jordan, Darrell Woodford, Martin and Freddy Snell for the 6.20 start, where Steve Gibbs joined them for a photo shoot in damp darkness.

Enthusiasm was high for the route that took the team via Queens Avenue, Farnborough and Frimley, Camberley Town Centre, Swinley Forest, Martins Heron, Winkfield, Holyport and into central Maidenhead.

It had been agreed that Freddy Snell (aged 9) would act as the pacesetter with Dad Martin – and they managed to get as far as the Lookout (12 miles) before taking a well earned break!

The five remaining members pushed on in perfect conditions with the rain staying almost entirely away. The latter stages were tough (as expected) but the group remained positive and surprisingly nimble! By this stage the media and twitter feeds were buzzing and the news that the funds were increasing by the hundreds kept us light footed.

The route execution was near perfect thanks to the detail provided by the local Ramblers association; although tracking data suggested that it might have been over 23 miles in total. Only the paths in Swinley Forest threatened to throw us off track! One part of the route needed modification, as the Ramblers track had been diverted due to a new build property. Just a small place with a £30m price tag: http://www.harfordmanor.com !

As we arrived into Maidenhead the support increased again as fans started to recognise the group. Congratulations, photos , extra sponsorship cash and handshakes all round.

After 8 hours and only a few relatively quick breaks the team were reunited as Freddie and Martin rejoined us for the last 200 yards into York Road.

Tommy and Robin extend their sincere thanks for the bravery of the other 5 in stepping up to this challenge. It took guts to step forward for this one.

We all send our incredible gratitude to those who contributed to the fund, both online and with cash/cheques. We will be leaving the https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/shotstrust page open for a few more days and announcing a final total later this week. Suffice to say it will be far beyond anything we expected when this all started.

All seven of us though are humbled and honoured to support this club and to be able to back Gary and James in this way.

Updated Thurs 5th:

48 hours to go and the 7 of us are packed and ready. Tommy and Robin are thrilled that Hayley, Steve, Darrell, Martin and Freddy are joining us for the 22 mile walk to York Road.

Our online target is £1500 and we could do with just a few more sponsors to reach that, please take a look:

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/shotstrust

We have also received nearly £500 in cheques and cash since we launched, so we are hopeful of getting around £2000 in the Boost The Budget account. Great news, and we will update you on that next week.

You will be able to follow the walk on the club website as Steve Gibbs will be following us (on 4 wheels), and of course primarily on the Trust Twitter and Facebook. (For those without twitter - these tweets can be found, slightly delayed, on the home page http://www.shotstrust.co.uk)

Thanks again to all those who have backed us! Wish us well and see you all at York Road !

Original Message:

As you will hopefully have seen by now Robin and Tommy are planning a sponsored walk to Maidenhead - 22 miles on the morning of our match in October.

Tommy's interview here: http://shotstrust.co.uk/latest-news/tom ... -local-tv/

All funds raised go to Boost The Budget - we'd be hugely appreciative if some of you were able to sponsor us in this ambitious goal !

PS - if anyone thinks they might also be up for the challenge - then please email us on info@theshotstrust.co.uk to get further information.
