Now This Seasons Friendlies

Post by Kingfield Shot » Thu May 10, 2018 10:32 pm

It is time that we had some decent HOME friendly games. Lets see if we can play teams we have played in the cups before. Let try Coventry, Watford,
Bristol Rovers and Ipswich Town. Even if played the youth teams from Chelsea, Man United and West Ham then we would still have good gates giving us a good financial start to the season. Lets also ask Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen to come down, as I am sure there are plenty of followers of these teams who live down south. Also when Corinthian Casuals played a Man United Youth team the other season, the gate was over 1500 or so.

Would be nice.
Expect unimaginative Wycombe, Oxford or QPR ressies. Yawn.

Millwall & Reading would be good friendlies, haven't played either team for a while.

I know not everyone likes them, but I enjoy PSF and would also like to see at least one of them against a prestige side.

However PSF are mainly designed to trial and test players to face the kind of opposition they will play against in the forthcoming season and as such playing a prestige team for every PSF may not be helpful to the development of the squad.

Any gate money earned is a nice bonus of course, so it would be good to have at least one big name come down on that basis alone.

After the last home friendly against Reading I suspect that ain't happening.
You have more chance of signing Ronaldo than getting the Old Firm down....unless there is a connection.
And that is the key. Why would Coventry or even Watford go to Aldershot when there are dozens of non league teams closer to them.
To get a team to travel you need a connection (eg Chelsea, Ipswich etc). But with a club like Chelsea, by the time Aldershot are ready to play most youth players have been assigned to their loan club.
What you need to do is come to the Netherlands. Training facilities at even amateur clubs are top drawer, there are plenty of teams willing to play, and they will contribute to the travel/accomodation.

Woking would be an obvious one now but cant see them wanting to fix their fence before the season even starts

No offence :) but would be good to play one of the London clubs.
Non league team only very rarely attract a first team for a friendly.
In the past we often play a bigger team on the day they are playing somewhere else as well.

How about a week's tour. Taunton, Exeter & Torquay.

Yeh, would be good to play some different teams in PSF's , though Hampton away is always a good day out. Can't see us ever playing Millwall again in a PSF as I think the fans clashed at Waterloo before the FA Cup game a few years ago and there isn't much love lost.....

I have a contact at Brighton who I have asked to put us forward. They have been to our place but a trip to the Amex would be nice! Lets wait and see.
