Academy win U19 VAR tournament at St. Georges Park

Post by leafs » Wed Nov 07, 2018 11:36 pm

The shots Academy (all the boys being 16 and 17) today won the Premier League VAR testing u19 tournament.

After drawing in their last group game with Hartlepool United thus finishing 3rd in their group they beat Sutton United 1-0 in the QF. They then beat Maidstone 2-1 in the SF and the dominated the Final against Dover winning 1-0. But that doesn't tell the whole story.

The young shots had 12 shots to 2 and 8 to 1 on target. On top of this they were also playing their 3rd game of the day and Dover only their 2nd.

A very good display all round from some excellent and exciting young players ..... well done also to the managers and staff and congratulations to the players

This is excellent news. I do hope a few are given a chance to step up to the first team.

So they've had more shots in a day than the first team can muster in a month

That was in 1 game.

And yes at least 6 or 7 or maybe even 8 of these players should get the opportunity over the next few weeks to train at the very least with the 1st team. And to a point start to intergrate them into to maybe sitting on the bench and getting 10 minutes or 15 minutes at the end of the game in the NL.

Clearly you cant put 3 or 4 on the bench but 1 this week and 1 the next week and so on. You never know you might just find 3 or 4 players that can step up ...... a few of these boys are decent and can certainly play AND probably better than a couple that are in the 1st team sqaud now I reckon

Well done to the youngsters.
Let’s hope we can bring them through.
A few years back the young team that won the Hants Floodlight Cup included a couple of players that in my opinion were 1st team material and we lost them to other teams for some reason.
If we have no money to buy a new Striker (91) then let’s develop them but actually give them a chance this time.
