Community Clubs Day - Saturday Feb 2nd - RESCHEDULED

Post by Mick Earls Fan Club » Mon Jan 07, 2019 5:17 pm

Tweet from the club this afternoon.

"We’re hosting our first ever Community Clubs Day on the 2nd of February, and we want youth football sides to join us!
Know a team who’d be interested? Visit http://theshots.co.uk/community-clubs-day/ … for more information and to get them signed up"

"Replying to @OfficialShots
FA Trophy 3rd Round that day.
Solihull away at Halifax in R2 this coming Saturday - so lets hope they get knocked out or or the event will be off..."

If I thought of this within two minutes of reading the tweet - maybe the club could have picked a better date?

Maybe ... but it’s a very good idea. Well done to those involved.

Brilliant idea and exactly what we should be doing. The kids will love it and is good PR for the club.

Quite ironic we were discussing this on the forum yesterday.......

It is a good idea - but my point is why choose a date that is "vulnerable"?

The following Saturday 9th Feb we're at home as well and no FA Trophy. Likewise 2nd March.

So pleased to see this initiative which will hopefully not be a one-off. It is the youngsters who the club need to attract. Well done to those at the club who are working to make it happen.

I was lucky enough to play at the Rec in a youth football final some forty years ago. I can still clearly remember the whole experience even though we lost 3-1 and I gave away a pen! The point is that that memory forms part of my attachment to ATFC (or AFC back then).

The Community Clubs Day has the potential to inspire and connect with some of these young players. Going one step further, maybe the club could involve the playing squad......go meet the kids, talk to them, have a kick about with them, let them look behind the scenes. My own connection comes not only from playing on that pitch but also times like meeting Alex McGregor, speaking to John Anderson...kids can’t have changed that much in four decades can they? Like any treasured memory it’s as much about the people involved as it is the place.

In fairness the club is already getting kids meeting the players through the Junior Shots club, which is superb value for money. My young lad has already met groups of (injured) players twice this season and is striking up a nice little friendship with Rens. 8)

I’m pretty sure any players not involved but there on the day will be down at the Footpool games, they are an open and friendly bunch and always seem happy to engage with the kids.

I’ve already signed up the U9 team I coach for this. Now just keeping my fingers crossed that the fixture goes ahead!!!

Just to prove that someone is listening - yes, it would be most unfortunate if the match had to be postponed as you have suggested.

Yes good point Mick, I’m really stunned the club chose a vulnerable date!

If Solihull win the replay, everyone will finally realise what you were banging on about :-)
