O yes. Nightmare and the most costly miss maybe. We would have won if that had gone in.
That team may well of survived in the league too. Fine margins and then cheated out of the penalties.

Not sure how much of that team would have remained with us - didn't we lose one or two when we went full time the following season?

Dom Sterling didn’t stay as I believe that he had a well paid job in IT.

It was a very good chance, and he should at least have got his header on target, but it was nowhere near as bad as some of the other misses mentioned here.

Why were we cheated out if penalties??

Probably their goalie, who comes off his line befit the ball is kicked, watch him in a re-run he is sometimes 3 yards forward when it's kicked. If any of our players had checked on the run up they would have been tackled!

Exactly that.
Seem to remember him admitting it in an interview many years later and being proud that he’d got away with it.
The venue of the game was hardly neutral either. Should of played it at Villa Park I reckon.

I’m sure the venue would have been decided months before or even at the start of the 03-04 season Mick, I can imagine the Queens Park Rangers fans were delighted when their 3rd tier playoff final in 2003 at Cardiff was against....... Cardiff!

Indeed, the venue has to be decided well in advance so that appropriate preparations can be made. The play-offs only started the year before our appearance and the first play-off final was also held at Stoke (and was effectively a "local game" for Doncaster).

Holding it at Villa Park would have made no difference to the "neutrality" of the venue - Shrewsbury fans would only have had to travel an extra ten miles to get to the game.

Yep, I’d guess a neutral ground between Aldershot and Shrewsbury would be something like Oxford but rules are rules!

Shrewsbury - Stoke as a journey is not that much different to Aldershot - Wembley....... I can't imagine any Shrewsbury fans would have complained about the neutrality of Wembley had that been available as a venue at the time.

Agree that I’ve seen some far easier chances being missed, but for me it’s what Charles’ miss cost us.
