I remember that being an awful long journey home on the coach after that game!

They didn’t show our goal on the video clip.

You’ll be lucky, 1987 and division 3

Went to all the aways then. That game at Sunderland was the weekend of my 21st. Enjoyed the day, despite the result.

Bobby Barnes made it 1-1 and the ground fell silent! Always remember that

When I was in the RAF I used to do a lot of tenpin bowling. The RAF Championships were always held in Sunderland every year. It happened that this match was on the same weekend, and I was free in the afternoon so could go. I was with my wife and she wanted a tea just before half time and so I went before it got too busy and missed our goal!! At least I didn't have the long trip home afterwards, but on the Monday we travelled back to Germany!!

Bobby Barnes equaliser right on half time and we were still going mental start of second half, Sunderland fans didn't know what to make of us. Big Geordie who was in the paras was up for the weekend with Adie Fuller and a few lads who had an interesting night out in South Shields (I think). Aside Wolves in the play offs, it was the first time we had a police escort from our coach parked up at Seaburn to the ground. I've still got a couple of photos from the game. That Roker End was massive, proper old school ground. Felt like we were in the big time back then, Sunderland, Brighton, Bristol City etc.

Never forget as we had a party to go to that night in Brighton! Went in a mates VW Jetta
730am from Fleet IIRC then Sunderland for lunchtime beer and food. Match, then got to the pub just in time for last orders at 1045.
Luckily the party went on afterwards at someone's house
