Acceptable league position

Post by Oliver11 » Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:45 pm

At the start of the season where would Shots fan deemed an acceptable finishing position in the league?

The bookmakers had us as 4/6 favourites to be relegated, added with only being allowed to play in this league early June and virtually an entirely new squad we were up against it from the start.

For me, being safely away from the relegation zone I would deem acceptable and finishing mid table our best outcome.

Yes we're currently to close to comfort to the relegation zone but only 5 points away from that mid table position with a team that capable of delivering.

Therefore IMO the current manager should be backed for the time being and given a chance.

Expected lower mid table this season, so anything much above (say) 16th would be good, relegation places are definitely not acceptable.

As long as we can steer clear of that, then I can accept variable results as that goes with the territory (much as I might prefer it to be altogether different).

If your not aiming to win the league or at least get promoted something is badly wrong.

Agree on this in normal circumstances, but cutting our cloth, etc, etc does seem realistic, at least this season.

Lower mid table will be disappointing, but would be ok on that basis. Wouldn't say it was the perfect position though.

Given the difficult summer I'm with Oliver11. Avoiding the drop, preferably without a nervy final day, will do me. Assuming we stay up my expectations will be more demanding next year.

Having said that, I'm an exile this season so I don't 'have' to put up with performances this forum seems to think are like last year's.

As is gone so far, one place above the relegation spots will do me.

😱😱😱 I would hope Searle gets rid of the dead wood and gets some new faces that will really dig in and force us up the table. I couldn’t accept just finishing above the relegation spot at this time of the year. And while I’m at it, Searle being a rookie manager should of been on a performance related contract, whereby if we are where we are now we should of been able to get rid.

I’m happy if we play awful football, don't score many goals and just go through the motions, unexciting the tiny crowds that hang in there, and finish one place above the relegation.

Unfortunately it will be without me watching but best of luck to those that do.

What an amazing success and vision that will be. Well done everyone that is happy with that.

staying up with signs of an optimistic season next year.

Summer of disruption and uncertainty following a disastrous season under Waddock, with a young manager feeling his way into management with the first time of being responsible for building a squad and coaching them into a playing style on a limited budget. The bookies had us down as favorites for relegation, anybody expecting anything other than a year of inconsistent performances and at best mid table needs their head read.
