Shots Trust purchase additional shares in ATFC

Post by Shots Supporters Trust » Mon May 18, 2020 6:42 pm

*Breaking News*

We are today pleased to announce that we have purchased £5,000 worth of shares in the Football Club.

The decision to purchase this value of shares has been taken following last month’s Trust Board meeting, where we discussed at length our keenness to assist and help the Football Club in what are unusual and difficult times for everybody concerned.

We also took into account the fact that the Club had three home matches against Woking, Torquay and Ebbsfleet cancelled during the lockdown period, where match-day revenue would have exceeded the usual amount for a home game.

This sum will not only go towards helping the Club, but now also sees the Shots Trust increase it’s total shareholding to £15,000. As the Voice of the Fans, we look forward to being an active shareholder and to engaging with the Club Board in discussions around our way forward....

Are they represented on the Board since Tommy resigned?

Be nice if the Club thanked the Trust for their “donation” ?

Couldn’t agree more! The Trust have donated over £65k to ATFC. It wouldn’t hurt to give an acknowledgement to this effect.

Given the writing is on the wall, it would have been better to have held onto it IMHO. If football in Aldershot goes pop for a third time, it's time to really think about what is possible. There might even be a whole year to plan something other than groundhog day.

Sadly it will not happen!

Tommy Anderson chose to leave the board, very short sighted in my opinion
better to influence things from inside. Has he changed his mind about resigning
as well. WELL DONE to the trust for deciding to invest in the club again, shame
it took the start of a new supporters club to do this.

Maybe some truths are being laid bare at this time. If by some miracle games take place next season, will the income stream from the fans be heralded as 'saving the club' I wonder? It's a great quote that some have been dining out on for years.

With the odds against Tommy when it comes to a vote I am not sure what influence he could bring to bear in the Boardroom. Any NDA agreement would also restrict him. I know from past experience with other Supporters Club Officials on the board that their words of wisdom carried little merit.

You are correct David as to exactly what a Trust representative can usefully bring to a boardroom without a cash cow in tow. Some years back, a club successfully sued a Trust for breaching an NDA as the Trust disclosed information that they felt morally obliged to do but were the wrong side of the law. A health chunk of shares without boardroom representation gives a Trust a lever to prise open any cans of worms they might identify without a conflict of interests.
