Was it really that long ago, seems like only yesterday.

I was there, was you?

I was behind the goal (east bank end)

Yes, I was at the game with my brother....

Below a note from my ‘retired blog’ which published my top 50 memories from 50 years of following the Shots....and yes, the time has flown by, as it will be ‘60 years a slave‘ on October 15th!

‘The Game’ reached number 8 on my list - Aldershot 1 v Manchester Utd 3 (Football League Cup R2), September 9th 1970.

The day United came to town and the only time that I have stood on the East Bank….

They say the crowd was 18509 but I reckon it was more. Richard Walden’s opening goal was scored at the ‘far end’, but who cared…we went mad, and the thousands of ‘travelling’ United fans fell silent.

In the end Charlton, Best and Law were just too good.

Bunked off work in the afternoon to get into town early. Also in The East Bank. Fantastic night.

LBS would have been 43 days old but probably still squeezed a quickie in before kickoff 😎

I was stood by the corner flag edge of the south stand near the east bank. Atmosphere was electric.
Seats and benches pitchside. The REC in all its beautiful splender.

And a far better game than a few years ago.

18,509 for the Utd game and 19,138 for the Carlisle game. We won’t see crowds like that again here at The Rec.
