Great article by Oliver Holt. Ironic that on the weekend he wrote this article Stockport’s opponents were again The Shots. I never knew his mother was Emily Bishop from Coronation Street!
Emily Bishop, a great character when Coronation Street was worth watching.
Great article. Agree with you Crowthorne about Corrie. Disgraceful how it has been destroyed over the past few years. Always remember the picture of our Jack Howarth with Corrie's Albert Tatlock (whose real name was Jack Howarth) when he moved to Rochdale briefly.

I still cant believe we pay fairly average players £300,000 a week and yet the football described in this article hangs by a thread.
There are only four players in the Premier League earning £300k per week or more, Magister Mus. They are Rahim Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, David de Gea and Gareth Bale. I don't think any of these can be remotely described as "fairly average".

Pretty much anyone earning a living in the Premier League is by definition a spectacularly talented footballer.
Well you get what I mean. A fews weeks pay and that level and football at our level would be secure.

Not that I watch MOTD much but there are plenty of players on show that are less than spectacularly talented.
Yes, I get what you mean and you are right.

I think you have to beware of reading too much into TV highlights. I reckon if you took even one of the lowest paid players in the Premier League and put them in a Conference team, they would be a sensational standout. How about Jamie Shackleton at Leeds as a example. Reported salary £1,500 per week. Can you imagine him in our team

I agree about the street going down hill, characters on there should be more local, more non mancs than mancs these days, same with emmerdale, more cockneys and foreigners than tykes

If the gruesome threesome can get a stadium off the taxpayer for free, they can easily pay big wages.

I think the relevant sums are something like this. The stadium cost around £750 million of which West Ham contributed £15 million. Almost all of the remainder came from the taxpayer (i.e., you and me).

West Ham's main sources of income are domestic TV (£32 million per annum) and overseas TV (£45 million per annum). Out of this, they pay £2.5 million a year in rent for the stadium. So 300 years from now, the taxpayer just may start to show a return
