There is little love of Drakeford in Wales, but he gets in as they can't bring themselves to vote Tory

This is another example of what a waste of time and money the Senedd is.

Reading the BBC article one thing stood out for me that I would have thought was the determining factor and its this quote:

"Land registry records confirm that the whole site is within the administrative area of Cheshire West & Chester Council"

Surely its the "Administrative" area that takes precedence over geographical location, especially as has also been pointed out responsibility for the safety certificate rests with Cheshire & Chester councils.
As regular posters will know, Old Bob is not inclined to follow the crowd but tries to make up his own mind on things. Yes, agreed, it's a crazy situation but there is a modicum of sense to the position adopted by the Welsh government and Flintshire police. Well, more that has come out so far in this thread.

But first, Richard, administrative counties were abolished by the Local Government Act of 1972, which took effect in 1974. So that cannot be the determining factor.

Now the answer to Statto's question "did Chester breach COVID rules?" has to be YES. The rules under discussion apply in Wales. The pitch and spectator areas are in Wales.

So I don't think there's any issue or argument there. Where there is a question to be asked (and answered) is ... "given that Chester breached Covid rules, are there extenuating circumstances? And if so, what should be done about it?" Here I think you can have a right old argument. It seems there are plenty of extenuating circumstances, many mentioned in posts above, but how you assess their strengths is going to depend on your judgement of what is important and what is less important. The Welsh government and police are going to give priority to upholding the integrity of their laws and regulations (in a way that Boris ought to have been doing in England, but hasn't). Chester FC are going to be concerned about playing football and their revenue streams. So it's a tricky one to navigate. How do you do the best for all parties?

Two sides to every argument. It's not good reasoning to jump to the conclusion that Mark Drakeford is acting in bad faith, and has it in for Chester FC just because they are English bastards

Totally agree with the first part of your post, how can Chester FC not be English?
... by having a ground in Wales :?:

Police investigate a debatable breach of Covid rules at obscure non-league football club. Police don't investigate multiple confirmed breaches of Covid rules at Downing Street due to 'lack of evidence' despite the buildings being constantly surrounded by armed police and countless CCTV cameras. They're all in it together.

“ The other half of the story, clearly, is that nothing happens in 10 Downing Street without the cops knowing, and that looks like a very big question indeed.”

Nice piece of conspiracy theory, Mytshot.

Boris will be gone very soon he has past his use by date, all the party stuff is emerging a year after the event so who is leaking it ? It isn`t the opposition it`s an inside job. DC has got it in for him and Graham Brady is on record as saying he would accept emails to force a vote of no confidence. The country needs a new strong leader untainted by the current cabinet, as the favourite rarely wins a Tory leadership race I would say get your money on Tom Tugendhat or Tobias Ellwood, both available at very good prices.

Either of those would be excellent choices. Unfortunately it’s more likely that Truss, Gove or Raab will take over which is more frightening than keeping the buffoon.

I don’t know much about Tugendhat or Ellwood - which probably bodes well!

This ‘lack of evidence’ only includes an emailed invitation, photographs, videos, eyewitness accounts and a confession now :P

Well, obviously, Bill, it was a conspiracy because they're all in it together.

Perhaps Chester fans should all take a bottle and have a party on the terrace as it seems that is allowed
